The Project:

Having sat derelict for 8 years following a tragic fire, the 14 storey Lakanal Estate high-rise block underwent complete renovation in 2017.   ENGIE invited us to work with them on the sensitive project and asked that we utilise our specialist knowledge to provide a complete package of electrical services from design through to installation and testing.

Part of Southwark Council’s Sceaux Gardens Estate in Camberwell, Lakanal House is a 14-story tower block containing 98 flats.  The building dates from 1959 and is made up of two-bedroom maisonettes of a two-storey interlocking design.

The project included adaptation to lateral mains, plant room works, landlord supply to flats, internal rewiring, replacing all CCUs, installing LD2 advanced smoke alarms, data cabling and fixed wire testing.

The Challenge: Sensitive Electrical Refurbishment

The Environtech team delivered the project with sensitivity and consideration, respectfully working within the community while meeting the demands of this major electrical refurbishment.

The project demanded adaptation to the existing lateral mains.  Our team responded with a solution to meet the electrical distribution system requirements for this in multi-occupancy building before continuing with delivery of the complete programme of works at pace.

The Results: Regeneration Success

Complete electrical design, installation and testing services were delivered within the ENGIE Southwark Council project.   The Environtech team completed handover to the highest snag free standard:

  • Lateral mains adaptation
  • Plant room works
  • Landlord supply to 94 flats
  • Internal rewiring of communal space and 94 flats
  • Replacement of all CCUs
  • Installation of LD2 advanced smoke alarms throughout
  • Data cabling
  • Fixed wire testing

“Environtech’s inherent knowledge and ability to deliver from design through to installation and testing made them our preferred partner for the Lakanal House project.   Such a major refurbishment brings with it complex and changeable programme demands.  We find Environtech is always willing to flex and adapt to meet these demands and ultimately delivered an outstanding level of service.”
